Two people were killed and one other injured by lightning strikes in Kutubdia upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Friday.

The victims were identified as Sihab Uddin,60, son of Abdul Zabbar of Tabelarchar village and Sahab Uddin,50, son of Sattar Hawlader son of Sattar Hawladar of Galachipa village in Patuakhali district.

Sources said, Sihab was hit by lightning around 2:00 pm while he was loading salt in an engine boat in the Tabelarchar area while Shahab uddin fell unconscious as lightning struck him in the Kutubdia channel.

Later, they were rushed to Kutubdia Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared them dead on arrival, said a physician at the hospital.

The injured have been identified as Sushil Das, 36, son of Parbesh Das of Jalepara in Baraghop union of Kutubdia upazila. He was also taken to the upazila health complex.

The bodies have been handed over to the family and the injured is being treated at the hospital, said officer-in-Charge of Kutubdia Police Station Omar Haider.
