Prominent media personalities Sara Zaker and Tariq Anam Khan have received the Munier Chowdhury Memorial Awards for 2020 and 2021 respectively. Organised by theatre troupe Theatre, the award ceremony was held at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Saturday on the occasion of 96th birth anniversary of martyred intellectual Munier Chowdhury.
Bangla Academy Director General Mohammad Nurul Huda attended the programme as the chief guest while theatre personality Ramendu Majumdar delivered welcome speech on the occasion with Theatre President Ferdousi Majumdar in the chair.
After receiving the award, Sara Zaker said, “Today I am happy and at the same time I feel sad because I lost Aly Zaker just a day after I was named for the award. This is a very prestigious award for theatre activists in Bangladesh and is no less important than a national award. I’m grateful to all.”
Tariq Anam Khan shared, ‘This is an emotional moment for me. I was a young theatre activist when ‘Theatre’ introduced the award named after Munier Chowdhury. We were very keen to receive the award. Today, I have got this award. I’m really honoured to receive this.”
On the other hand, Sambit Saha and Jyoti Sinha got Mohammad Zakaria Memorial Award for 2020 and 2021 respectively.
