Man accused in 14 cases killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’

A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police near Kushtia-Iswardi highway of Bheramara upazila in Kushtia on early Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Mohon Ali, 35, son of Tauhidul Islam Hadu, hailing from Daulatkhali village of Daulatpur upazila under Kushtia.

Confirming the news, Mohammad Shajalal, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bheramara Police Station, said members of the elite force went to the spot to conduct a drive as they had a secrete information that a group of robbers were taking preparation for a robbery in the area.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on them forcing them to fire back in self-defence that triggered a gunfight, he added.

After the skirmish, members of police recovered the body of Mohon from the spot and sent to Kushtia General Hospital morgue for an autopsy, he added.

Police also recovered arms and bullets from the spot, the OC said.
