Hasina meets Sonia Gandhi and family in New Delhi

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina met with senior members of India’s Congress Party on Monday afternoon.

The meeting took place at the ITC Maurya Hotel, where Hasina is staying during her official visit to New Delhi.

The delegation from the Indian Congress Party included Sonia Gandhi, a Member of the Rajya Sabha and Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party, her son Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and her daughter Priyanka Gandhi, General Secretary of the Indian National Congress Party.

The discussions between Prime Minister Hasina and the Gandhi family are seen as a reinforcement of the historical ties and political camaraderie between Bangladesh and India.

Further details of the discussions were not disclosed, but it is expected that a range of issues concerning bilateral cooperation and regional stability were on the agenda.

Prime Minister Hasina’s itinerary in New Delhi includes attending the swearing-in ceremony of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and engaging in multiple high-level meetings with her Indian counterparts and others from neighbouring nations visiting India.

Sheikh Hasina arrived in New Delhi on Saturday to attend the oath-taking ceremony of the new Indian government at the invitation of her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.

She is expected to leave the Indian capital for Dhaka this afternoon.
