Bangladesh miss out on series win

Sports Desk:

Bangladesh missed out on the chance of sealing their first-ever Test series win over New Zealand as they lost the second and final Test in Dhaka by four wickets.

New Zealand managed to chase down the total with four wickets in hand, courtesy of an unbeaten 40 and 35 from Glenn Phillips and Mitchell Santner, respectively, as the duo formed a 70-run partnership to guide the Blackcaps home after they were reduced to 69-6.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz has picked up three wickets for Bangladesh, while Taijul Islam has picked up two. The other wicket went to Shoriful Islam.

The two teams share the spoils of the series after this match as Bangladesh won the first Test at Sylhet.

New Zealand lost their first wicket when Shoriful trapped Davon Conway (2) LBW.

Kane Williamson (11) once again fell to Taijul Islam as he was stumped before Mehidy trapped Henry Nicholls (3) LBW.

Tom Latham (26) then edged one off Mehidy, which Nazmul Hossain Shanto took brilliantly at first slip. Shanto then took another good catch to dismiss Daryl Mitchell (19) as the batter tried his umpteenth reverse sweep against Mehidy. Although Mitchell was initially given not out, Bangladesh reviewed and replays showed that he had indeed gloved it.

In between, Taijul got Tom Blundell (2) to edge one to wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan Sohan.

In the final session, though, Bangladesh failed to make any more inroads as Phillips and Santner guided New Zealand to the win.

Earlier in the day, starting on 38-2, Bangladesh could only manage 144 before getting bowled out as Zakir Hasan scored 59 and Ajaz Patel took six wickets.
