A man was held at the domestic terminal of the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with 3,565 pieces of Yaba tablets on Friday.

The Armed Police Battalion deployed at the airport said that they had arrested Md Zahid Hossain, 27, who was not a passenger but was there to meet someone.

The APBn additional superintendent, Muhammad Ziaul Haque, said that based on the information, they had identified the person at the domestic terminal departure.

He said the team held him while he was fleeing.

During primary interrogation, Zahid informed the police that he hailed from Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar.

The APBn official said this was the third case in two weeks.

He told New Age that Zahid was not a passenger but waiting for someone in front of the domestic terminal.

Ziaul said that they did not find his name on any flight passenger list. ‘We handed him over to the Airport police station for further investigation,’ he said.

He suspected that the arrested person might be using a secured place to transport yaba pills.

Their team arrested another person, Sohel Rana, at the same place on May 20 with 1,672 pieces of yaba tablets.

Ziaul said that Sohel Rana travelled from Cox’s Bazar on an Air Astra flight and was arrested during the investigation. Sohel hailed from Santhia upazila in Pabna.
