A team of Rapid Action Battalion on Tuesday arrested absconding death row war crimes convict Khalilur Rahman at a location in Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka, RAB said on Wednesday.

Khalilur, 68, from Netrokona was sentenced to death for 1971 war crimes by the International Crimes Tribunal-1 on September 13.

He went into hiding since beginning of the war crimes investigation against him in 2015, RAB legal and media wing director Khandaker Al Moin said.

Khalilur, a member of the Islami Chhatra Sangha during the war of Independence in 1971, joined the infamous Al-Badr and became a commander of the paramilitary force in Chandigar Union, according to the prosecution.
