Unidentified assailants shot two leaders of ruling Awami League in Bandarban and Satkhira on Monday.
The deceased were Mong Mong Thoi Marma, 50, Taracha union AL president of Rowangchhari upazila in Bandarban district and Nazrul Islam, 48, a resident of Kuchpur and also Agardari union AL vice-president of Sadar upazila in Satkhira.
Rowangchhari Police Station officer-in-charge Shariful Islam said that unidentified assailants shot Mong Mong on Rowangchhari-Bandarban road at hilly Shamukjhiri area around 1:00pm when he was on the way to the district town from upazila headquarters by his motorcycle.
Mong Mong died on the spot and, receiving the information from the passers-by, police rushed the spot, recovered the body and took it to the police station, he said.
He added that they also seized the motorcycle having mark of a bullet on it.
The police officer, however, could not say the motive behind the murder.
New Age correspondent in Satkhira reported that unidentified assailants shot Nazrul on Satkhira-Boikari road at Kashempur around 11:00am while he was on his way to home from Kadamtala bazaar by his motorcycle.
Witnesses said that bullet-hit Nazrul, though bleeding profusely, continued driving and fell on the road and died there.
Immediately after the incident, locals blocked the road.
Satkhira Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Mustafizur Rahman said that they, on information from the locals, rushed to the spot and sent the body to Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination.
He said that they calmed the locals who left the road after sometimes.
