Squadron leader Kazi Ashiquzzaman, deputy director of the Smart Card (IDEA-2) project, made the announcement on Thursday.

According to EC officials, the smart card will have the words ‘Bir Muktijoddha’. 

President Abdul Hamid, Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda, Commissioner Mahbub Talukder and Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque will receive the special NID cards as freedom fighters in the inaugural day.

Over 1.83 lakh gazetted freedom fighters will receive the cards in phases, he said.
