Customs officials detained four people along with 11.22kg gold from Sylhet Osmani International Airport on Monday morning.
The arrestees are identified as Sheikh Md Jahid, son of Sheikh Abdul Jalil of Nabiganj upazila of Habiganj, Makbul Ali, son of Abdul Ahad of Kanaighat upazila of Sylhet, Bashir Uddin, son of Montaj Ali and Sultan Mahmud, son of Najim Uddin of the same area.
Sources at the airport said that the four men reached at the airport by a flight of Bangladesh Biman Airlines from Dubai at 8:40am.
Acting on a tip-off, the officials challenged the men as they were crossing the green channel of the airport, Al-Amin, Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Custom House, said.
They scanned their luggage and found an iron, a juicer maker and an air compressor, all of those made of gold, he said.
The market value of the seized gold is Tk7.72 crore.
