A mentally challenged man stabbed his father to death in Ashulia of the capital early in the morning.
The deceased was identified as Nur Mohammad (70) of Jirani Konapara area of Ashulia.
Quoting family, Ziaul Islam, inspector (investigation) of Ashulia Police Station, said that Afaz Uddin (40), went to sleep in his father’s room on Monday night. At one stage, Afaz stabbed his father with a boti (long curved local machete) at 2:00am, leaving him injured.
Later, the injured was rushed to Savar Enam Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead, the inspector said.
Afaz Uddin went into hiding after the incident, he said.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, said the inspector, adding that police are trying to locate the Afaz Uddin.
Shakhawat Hossain, son-in-law of Nur Mohammed, said, Afaz had been mental unwell since 2006. He is undergoing treatment since then.
