Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Shafiqul Islam on Sunday said that they are trying to bring back Banani Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Sheikh Sohel Rana, who was detained in India on Saturday, as he is an accused in a case in the country.
“Efforts are underway to bring back Inspector Sohel Rana detained in India. Although the process is not easy,” said the DMP Commissioner.
Sohel Rana, a pantroniser of e-commerce platform E-orange, was arrested by Border Security Force (BSF) in India while attempting to cross the border reportedly to flee the jurisdiction.
He left his workplace without permission after E-orange customers filed a case.
Sohel was the 10th accused of a case filed on Thursday over embezzlement of money from digital marketplace E-Orange.
Asked about possible action against Sohel, the city police chief said court will hold trial in the case filed against him.
Besides, police will take departmental action based on an investigation being done by Gulshan Division Police, as he was absent at work without permission, he added.
