Country sees highest temperature in 7 yrs

Shawdesh Desk;

The country on Sunday recorded 41.2 degree Celsius temperature which is highest in seven years.

The highest temperature was recorded in Jessore. Earlier in 2014, 42 degree Celsius temperature was recorded as highest in Chuadanga, said Hafizur Rahman, meteorologist of Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

A painstaking heat wave has been sweeping across the country for the last couple of days, causing miseries to the people across the country.

The highest temperature of Dhaka was 39.5 degree Celsius on the day, he said adding that current temperature will continue two or three more days.

Amid the stifling summertime temperatures, city dwellers opted to stay indoors during daytime.

The meteorologist suggested avoiding sunbeams and using proper protection like sunglasses, umbrella and cap while going out in the heat of the day.

The sweltering heat of the subtropical climate, which started in this month, has been affecting the vast swathes of the country, resulting in heat-related sickness and prompting people to get admitted into hospitals.

Physicians suggest that people should drink plenty of fluids and remain cautious about taking food to prevent heat-related sickness.

Mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Rajshahi divisions and the region of Srimangal.

Day temperature may rise slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.
