Sports Desk: West Indies demonstrated an all-round performance to gain upper hand over Bangladesh after the second day’s play in the ongoing second Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Friday.

Joshua Da Silva and Alzarri Joseph’s 118-run partnership for the seventh wicket followed by Bangladesh’s top-order collapse took the visitors in a strong position to complete a clean sweep against the hosts in the Test series.

Overnight unbeaten Nkrumah Bonner earlier got out on 90 runs while Joshua and Alzarri struck 92 and 82 runs respectively that guided West Indies post 409 runs in their first innings.

Bangladesh lost their top four on 71 runs and they finished the day at 105-4 from 36 overs with Mushfiqur Rahim and Mohammad Mithun remained not out on 27 and six runs respectively.

West Indies lower middle-order frustrated Bangladeshi bowlers for two sessions on the second day after the visitors resumed their innings on 223-5.

Bonner, who scored crucial 86 runs in the second innings of the Chattogram Test, failed to complete his maiden Test ton again as he had to depart when he tried to flick Mehidy Hasan that ended his 88-run stand with Joshua.

Joshua was playing brilliant cricket all round while he got plenty of support from Alzarri who built up a hundred plus stand for the seventh wicket to take their score close to the 400-run mark.

Joshua, who was approaching his maiden Test ton, got his stumps dislodged while trying to play a defensive shot against the bowling of Taijul, which turned out to be the 100th Test wicket for the left-arm spinner in Bangladesh.

Alzarri soon fell to Abu Jayed after hitting eight fours and five sixes in his 108-ball innings.

West Indies were bowled out just over the 400-run mark at the stroke of Tea break with Jayed and Taijul Islam bagging four wickets each.

Bangladesh suffered a serious setback after coming to bat in the final session as the replacement opener Soumya Sarkar gifted his wicket in the very first over without scoring any runs.

Soumya, who replaced injured opener, Shadman Islam, after joining the squad as the replacement of Shakib al Hasan, tried to flick the delivery from Shanon Gabriel that went to Kyle Mayers at short mid-wicket.

Najmul Hossain followed him soon as he edged an angling delivery of Gabriel that went straight to gully where Bonner took a fine catch.

Tamim Iqbal showcased an aggressive batting approach while Mominul too got into the act as the skipper and the opener brought up a brisk half-century stand.

However, Rahkeem Cornwall and Alzarri dismissed Mominul (21) and Tamim (44) respectively in quick succession before Mushfiqur and Mithun finished the day without any more loss of wicket.
