Shawdesh Desk:
The Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) has terminated 10 physicians and a store keeper from service for not joining a coronavirus isolation centre run by the city corporation at Agrabad Express Road to treat Covid-19 patients.
Dr Selim Akhter Chowdhury, chief health officer of CCC, confirmed the matter and said the 10 doctors were scheduled to join the isolation centre yesterday but they did not do so even though they were to be paid special salaries, incentives and arrangements for special transport, accommodation and food facilities.
A total of 17 doctors were recruited from different health centres of CCC in the isolation centre. They were fired by an order signed by the CCC secretary on Tuesday afternoon, Dr Akhter said.
The dismissed medical officers are Dr Siddhartha Shankar Debnath, Dr. Faridul Alam, Dr. Abdul Majid Sikder, Dr. Selina Akhter, Dr. Vijay Talukdar, Dr. Mohan Das, Dr. Iftekharul Islam, Dr. Sandeepan Rudra, Dr. Himel Acharya, Dr. Prosenjit Mitra and store keeper Mohsin Kabir.
Dr Selim Akhter Chowdhury said, “They are devoid of human sense. Being a doctor of the city corporation, they have not obeyed the office order, so they have no right to work with CCC”.
“The CCC mayor has announced to pay double salary side by side taking all security measures for them. It is very sad they did not agree to join the work after that,” he added.
Now the isolation centre has to be started with the recruitment of new doctors and completing their training.
