The month-long flower festival, organised by Chattogram District Administration, began at the DC Flower Park in Chattogram on Thursday.
Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain inaugurated the flower festival as the chief guest while Senior Secretary of Ministry of Public Administration Mohammad Mesbah Uddin Chowdhury and Divisional Commissioner of Chattogram Division Md Tofail Islam were present as special guests in the event.
Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain said, “In the Prime Minister’s election manifesto, tourism has been given importance, so we are trying to take forward the PM’s view through this flower festival”.
Senior Secretary Mohammad Mesbah Uddin Chowdhury said, “Once the area was occupied by the illegal encroachers and drug addicts, criminals. Now, the area has been turned into flower gardens. It will contribute to economic development”.

Chattogram District Deputy Commissioner Abul Bashar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman said, “Prime Minister inaugurated DC Park, Boat Museum, Tourist Bus and Full Day Tour, School Bus, Bird Park project. Besides, projects have been taken for establishing parks and playgrounds in each upazila by recovering the government land”.
Chattogram District Administration is organising the flower festival for the second time at DC Park. Around 127 species of flowers, including dahlia, chrysanthemum, magnolia, hasnahena, cherry, wisteria, are being showcased in the festival.
To attract the visitors, around 5,500 tulips were brought from the Netherlands. Sampan beach is set up for tourists to make this festival more interesting. This month-long flower festival will continue till February 23.
Mentionable, the Chattogram District Administration had recovered 194 acres of khash land along the Marine Drive Road in Faujdarhat, which had been occupied by local drug addicts and criminals for more than a decade.
Later, the area has been transformed into an attractive park by planting thousands of flower plants, offering additional facilities for visitors.
The administration organised the first biggest flower festival in the country at the park in February, 2023.
